Game hangs on black screen at launch

Platform: PC - GoG

Do you have any mods? No, first time launching the game

Please explain the issue is in as much detail as possible: Installed the game to NVME SSD. At launch, game displays a black screen with a cursor that soon disappears/turns into a loading icon.

Per advice from several older posts here and on Reddit, I changed the Registry entry "Kingmaker.FullscreenMode* " to “3”

I’ve run the game as Admin

I’ve reinstalled the game 2 times, and tried different drives.

My graphics drivers are up to date.

My system specs are:

  • Intel Core i7 8700k
  • GTX 1080
  • 64GB Corsair DDR4
  • Asus Prime Z370-A mainboard
  • GeForce Game Ready Driver 461.40

Do you have a controller plug in? If yes, try to unplug it and launch the game.

I had an Xbox controller plugged in, but unplugging it didn’t fix the issue.

Just to be sure, it’s Kingmaker right?

Kingmaker, from the GoG Galaxy store.

I get the same issue if I attempt to run the executable directly.

Sadly, the only ‘‘Black screen’’ bug reports i have seen since last patch are those.

Other than the black screen cause by old mods. But since you just bough the game, i doubt you have a old mod file.

Welp, I rebooted my PC and now it loads, I can get into the game just fine.

No idea what that did exactly, but I outlined all my efforts in the OP, so hopefully they are helpful to others.
