Thanks for the list.

That the Witch of all classes doesn’t get an animal companion like a Raven or something is pretty weird…

She gets familiar, so kind of the same.

Alchemist has the Construct Rider archetype. Only difference to the other listed archetypes here is that their “animal” companions are mechanical beings. But otherwise they do pretty much function the same way as for the other nature-themed classes.

Honestly, who wouldn’t want to ride an iron animal of mythic proportions into batle? That’s quite frankly one archetype I am looking forward to be included into WotR. Unlikely, I know. But damn do we need a contruct focused class. :building_construction:

Druids have medium armor avaible. Even heavy if they take the profiency-feat.

Granted Kingmaker had very few not-metal medium armors and I seriously doubt that a less-natural setting like the worldwound changes that. So its probably not easy to find them and might get frustrating that everyone else wears all the fancy stuff, but you are not allowed to. Even more complicated on the heavy ones.

True, but I would have preferred an actual animal companion… it seems so obvious for a Witch, wouldn’t you say?

Almost any Witch character in any fantasy setting has some kind of animal companion, be that a Toad or a Raven or Spiders… sure, sometimes they kinda double as a familiar, but me at least, I’ve always preferred those that were actual animals. :man_shrugging:

But we’ll see either way, the current alpha list isn’t final yet, or rather not complete yet.

Witches ( and some other classes) have familiars.
Familiars are small animals who help a caster to cast spells or they can do minor things for their master. They are not made for fighting.

Animal companions are usually medium or large animals who can fight for their master.
You can ride on some of them and some classes can only have animal companions their master can ride, for example horses.

It does not work in this computer game, but I have a question anyway:
In PnP can a character who has a class with a fimilar and a class with an animal companion use the same animal as familiar and animal companion?

True, but unlikely to ever be impemented.

True, but only Hide Armor and thats worse than some Light Armors and also yields -10 feet movement so Druid Armor type = 90% Light Armor.

The Hunter, Oracle, Cleric, and Shaman all only have medium armor proficiency.

And all of them can get the Heavy Armor Proficiency Feat AND cast spells using Heavy Armor AND dont mess up with any of their Class Features (Ranger Combat Styles etc.).

Oh, so when you were talking about the best armor proficiency that each class can get with feats while still using all of their Class Features. The fact that everything else is based just on what the class provides without any feats or multi classing didn’t make that clear.

List of Classes [Archetypes] that can NOT cast spells and have an Animal Companion:
bold means: best Armor, best Shields, etc.

  • Barbarian [Mad Dog]: Medium Armor, Shields, BAB 20
    Animal Companion: full selection
Major Class Features: Rage, Rage Powers, DR

  • Cavalier [most]: Heavy Armor, Shields, BAB 20
Animal Companion: limited selection (‘Cavalier’s’ Mount)
Major Class Features: Order, Challenge, Tactician, Charge, Expert Trainer, Banner, Bonus Feats

  • Cavalier [Beast Rider]: Heavy Armor, Shields, BAB 20
    Animal Companion: full selection
Major Class Features: Order, Challenge, Tactician, Charge, Banner, Bonus Feats

  • Monk [Sohei]: no Armor, no Shields, BAB 20
Animal Companion: limited selection (‘Monastic’ Mount)
Major Class Features: AC Bonus, Bonus Feats, *Flurry of Blows, Devoted Guardian, Evasion, Ki Pool, *Ki Strike, Style Strike, *Weapon Training

Beast Rider and Sohei are confirmed. Notice Sohei’s learn to use Light Armor but loose the AC Bonus and Flurry of Blows when doing so like a regular Monk so essentiall = no Armor.

The Sohei’s Flurry of Blows and Ki Strike Features work with any of the 3 Fighter Groups selected with Weapon Training at Level 6 / 12 / 18. The Weapon choice is limited to these:

  • Flurry of Bows
  • Flurry of Crossbows (Yay!)
  • Flurry of Monk Weapons
  • Flurry of Polearms
  • Flurry of Spears
  • Flurry of Thrown Weapons (Yay!)

These Classes dont have an Animal Companion as part of any of their Archetypes:

  • Fighter
  • Rogue
  • Slayer

I was unable to add this list to the OP because the Edit Function is apparently removed after a time.

As others have said, thank you so much for this, it is really helpful

Great list. I’m not sure if this list is actually based on what’s in-game or not, but if its not the Oracle has another Mystery that provides an animal companion by choosing a revelation.

Lunar Mystery:

Primal Companion (Ex): You gain the service of a faithful animal of the night. You can select from a bear, boar, crocodile, shark, tiger, or wolf. This animal functions as a druid’s animal companion, using your oracle level as your effective druid level.

This would be cool, but would probably need to be added with a revamped crafting system (to build your construct).

Heavy non-metal armors would be a nice edition. The Druid class felt…subpar in Kingmaker and could use some love—especially shifting varieties.

Of the Medium Armor Types we have:

  • Hide (= Druid capable)
  • Scale (= rarely Druid capable)
  • Breastplate (non-Druid)
  • Chainmail (non-Druid)

Of the Druid capable:

  • Hide AC+8 (= AC+4, max Dex +4, -10 feet movement, -2 Skills)
  • Scale AC+9 (= AC+6, max Dex +3, -10 feet movement, -3 Skills)

Compared to:

  • Padded AC+9 (AC+1, max Dex +8, full movement, no Skill penalty)
  • Leather AC+8 (AC+2, max Dex +6, full movement, no Skill penalty)
  • Studded Leather AC+8 (AC+3, max Dex +5, full movement, no Skill penalty)

So unless there are, like in BG2, Dragon Scale Armors, which would make Medium Armor the best Druids can wear, a Druid is a Light Armor user first and foremost.

Light Armor is superior to Hide as it has the same AC potential but no movement or skill check penalty. A high Dexterity Modifier can easily be reached by having Enduring spells that add to Dex as well as equipping the s##tload of +4/+6/+way-too-much extra Stats gear.

I hope they add Dragon Scale since its not only useful for Druids but all party members. However as there are no Druid companions (?), I find it very unlikely.
